A scarce original 1931 period cased boxing competition winner medal by 'F. PHILLIPS Medallist, Aldershot'; fine quality large unmarked example depicting a scene of two pugilists (boxers) in fighting motion with inscription to the rim '2nd Bn.The Rifle Bde. Novices Boxing 1931' below a scroll with further details 'R.F.N. J. Goldring Winner Lightweight'; the reverse with an embossed representation of the Rifle Brigade cap badge with display of battle honours up to the 'Relief of Ladysmith'. Good condition, complete with velvet lined fitted presentation case, this with service wear. Diameter approx 44mm.
Possibly awarded to Rifleman R.F.N. 6912554 Lance Corporal John Victor Goldring from Coulsdon of the 1st Bn Rifle Brigade who on the 15th June 1940 was reported missing, whilst serving in France with the BEF at the defence of Calais. He was later confirmed a Prisoner of War captured on the 25th May 1940 and was repatriated in February 1945.
