Observer Corps Pre-1941 qualification cap and lapel badge.

A scarce original pre-1941 frosted silver plated badge with plain circlet bearing the motto "Forewarned is Forearmed" and "Observer Corps" title, the centre depicts an Elizabethan coastwatcher holding a flaming torch and scanning the horizon; the reverse with maker's details "J.R.Gaunt London". Very good condition, this example retaining its original pin fittings, minor wear.

The 'Observer Corps' was awarded the title 'Royal' by His Majesty King George VI in April 1941, in recognition of service carried out by Observer Corps personnel during the Battle of Britain.
