The Boys' Brigade 1914 Hardy Cup, 42nd Company Liverpool, Colour Sergeant William Taylor Barron Joss (WW1 Military Cross), Silver Prize Winner's Medal by William Hair Haseler, Birmingham.

A superb 'Boys' Brigade 1914 Hardy Cup' jeweller's made prize winner's medal of the finest quality, in the form of a 'Maltese Cross' fretted in and around the arms and bearing the pre-1926 Boys' Brigade anchor on central shield within a strap; the reverse inscribed "42nd Coy" "Col.Sergt. Wm. T.B.Joss"; bearing Birmingham silver hallmarks for 1913 and maker's details "WHH" (William Hair Haseler) to the medal and "W.J.D" (William James Dingley) to the suspension bar. Excellent condition, retaining original red silk ribbon and suspension bar with pin fittings.
Overall Height 77mm.
Medal Width 27mm.

Attributed to: 'Second Lieutenant William Taylor Barron Joss MC'. During the Great War he originally served with the Royal Army Medical Corps and then the Army Service Corps, before being commssioned into the Northumberland Fusiliers on the 25th April 1917. He landed in Egypt on the 16th March 1915 gaining a 1914/15 Star Trio. He was discharged with the issue of the Silver War Badge on the 8th July 1919.
He was awarded the Military Cross on the 11th March 1918 for leading a patrol into No Mans land. His section came under heavy bombardment and he carried two wounded soldiers back to the British Lines.
