'Widecombe Fair' circa 1935 Promotional Song Sheet Music Badge by H.W.Miller.

A scarce original circa 1935 'Widecombe Fairr' promotional song badge; silver plated example depicting a farmers grey mare horse with seven country bumpkins in character costume riding on its back; the reverse with maker's details "H.W.Miller Ltd 118 Branston St. B'Ham.18" "Regd 791733" a Registered Design and Patent date of 1934. Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, no stress marks or damage to the enamel.

'Widecombe Fair' is a well-known Devon folk song about a man called Tom Pearce, whose horse dies after someone borrows it to travel to the fair in Widecombe with his friends. The chorus ends with the names of seven men travelling to the fair: "Bill Brewer, Jan Stewer, Peter Gurney, Peter Davy, Dan'l Whiddon, Harry Hawke, Old Uncle Tom Cobley and all."

"The Lambeth Walk" was a song from the musical "Me and My Girl" first made popular in 1937 by Lupino Lane, The song took its name from a notable street market in Lambeth Walk, London. "The Lambeth Walk" was turned into a film in 1939.

These badges were sold as commemorative souvenirs, also given away with the song sheet, of the very popular tune at that time "Amy Wonderful Amy". They came in three colours, yellow being the scarcer and were made by Miller, 118 Branston St, B'ham. Remains in good condition, original pin fittings, no chips to the enamel, but with two stress lines between the A and M. Size 27 x 25mm.
