WW2 Auxiliary Fire Service Official Numbered First Issue Sterling Silver AFS Lapel Badge.

A scarce original early Wartime first issue 'Auxiliary Fire Service silver and enamel lapel badge', the reverse impressed "Sterling Silver and with official issue number "116166". Very good condition, retaining original buttonhole fitting, enamel perfect, an excellent example.
Height 29mm.

Designed by Mr Paget of the Royal Mint and announced by the Home Office in 1938 the terms of its issue, the first being in "Sterling Silver".

WW2 Auxiliary Fire Service, AFS Celluloid Matchbox Cover with Superior Paraffin Matchbox.

A good original Second World War period celluloid matchbox cover, "British Made" the front and back displaying a badge representation of the 'Auxiliary Fire Service' with 'A.F.S' below, the spine inscribed with full title; accompanying is an empty wooden matchbox inscribed 'Superior Paraffin Matches' "Trade Mark" "Made in Belgium" and displaying a Tug Boat on the sea passing a floating bouy. Good condition, some minor foxing, colours remain bright, surface scratches.

A good early Second War silver plate and red enamel badge, the reverse with maker's details "Thomas Fattorini Ltd Regent St. Birmingham". Good condition, original buttonhole fitting, no damage to the enamel, minor wear to plating.

The Auxiliary Fire Service was formed in 1938 from unpaid part-time volunteers to supplement the work of the local Fire Brigade units in the time of emergency, it was superseded in 1941 by the National Fire Service, reformed again in 1948 alongside of the Civil Defence Corps and finally disbanded in 1968.
