WW2 Air Transport Auxiliary, ATA Silver & Enamel Pilot's Badge.

A very rare original Second World War period civilian pilot's 'Air Transport Auxiliary jewellers quality silver badge'; oval green enamelled oak wreath surmounted by an eagle, "ATA" on blue enamel ground to the centre, all resting on Latin motto scroll "Aetheris Avidi" (Eager for the Air), the reverse impressed "Silver". Very good condition, retaining the original pin fittings incorporating safety roller catch in good working order and correct for this badge, enamel perfect, an excellent example.
Height 29mm.

'Air Transport Auxiliary' created 1939 and based in White Waltham, Maidenhead, Berkshire. It was disbanded in 1945.

A rare original Second World War period civilian pilot's 'Air Transport Auxiliary unmarked silver badge'; oval oak wreath surmounted by an eagle, "ATA" to the centre which is personalised with hand painted black paint (which could be easily removed), all resting on Latin motto scroll "Aetheris Avidi" (Eager for the air) the reverse impressed with official issue number "D1268". Very good condition, retaining the original pin fittings incorporating safety roller catch in good working order and correct for this badge.
