A rare Second World War period 'National Pigeon Service silver plate and enamel badge', the reverse with maker's details in relief "Marples & Beasley Birmingham" and impressed with official issue number "10879". Good condition, retaining original buttonhole fitting, enamel with old restoration work now discoloured.

Trained homing pigeons lent by their enrolled civilian keepers for essential use by the RAF, Army, Home Guard, SOE and Special Forces to relay urgent messages back to England.
